This book, published in London in 1884, lists the ways in which some flowers and plants are thought to symbolize certain characteristics or virtues.  The book begins with plants listed in alphabetical order with their corresponding virtues, followed by the virtues listed in alphabetical order with their corresponding plants.  The book also includes plant-based poetry, as well as illustrations by the famous late-19th century children’s book artist Kate Greenaway.  After reading this book, you just might have to think twice about the meaning behind your next bouquet of flowers!
